General Grabber AT Recommended Tyre Pressure

I've just fitted General Grabber ATs to my Disco 4. Size is 255/55R19. Any recommendations on tyre pressures? I'm currently at the factory recommended 2.3 front/2.5 rear which is for the Goodyear Wrangler HPs that were factory fitted. This feels a little hard to me and I think that I should go down slightly for general road and everyday driving.

Front wheel shimmy

My Discovery 4 has developed a shimmy feeling in the steering under light braking. Done 89,000km, mostly long distance on tar. Brake discs look fine. I have been told by a neighbour who has one that these vehicles develope the shimmy from 70,000km onwards as a result fo worn steering joints. Can anyone verfiy this, or report a similar experience? I am keen to get this sorted before my warranty runs out!

R.I.P. my buddy 'O pall

So here we came to the end of the road, me and my BIG hearted Freelander. Together we went through a lot, some good some bad. I will never forget our training day at Gerotek with Land Rover Experience where the hand brake cable snapped on a very crucial point of a very high obstacle and the oil trail left after a rock smashed into the sump.

Despite ALL the critique received and all the jokes of driving a Freelander I received very good service from this vehicle, it went into places…

Sink Hole Expedition

After calling all Land Rover Society Members we were inundated with requests to join the expedition.

Our team is now finalised and the expedition will be amazing.

We have three main photographers, one chef, three climbers, one rigging expert, safety officer, technical backup, all in all 9 vehicles - ALL Land Rovers in the team.

I will blog the planning and progress here.

Expedition departs in November.

Land Rovers

We spent the day setting out the first section of the Bridgestone night Challenge - Western Cape.

The rain had been pelting down all night and we were met with muddy tracks, water everywhere and some fantastic driving. Karsten and I, driving Defenders always comment that they look the part. Sand, mud and water taken in their stride.

Next week we set out the second stage - this is going to be the best Bridgestone Night Challenge that we have ever organised.

The Calling

I sat as my desk on the weekend, dreaming of last week's adventure.

It did not take long and I sent an email to some friends "Lets go back to the Richtersveld area during the first week of September". I did not expect any responses, what with school, etc. Within 5 minutes came the first email said "Yes" then another and another.

At least seven vehicles answered the call!

We are going back on a more relaxed trip to photograph the scenery, drive and… Continue

Lost Passes Expedition

We have just returned from an expedition to try and drive some passes last used by prospectors 60 years ago. The Landy's were a dream .... we managed to drive two passes and re-open a route not used for many years. Two other passes were impossible and need lots of work to make them safe on one pass my traction control locked my brakes and I managed to stop less than a meter from a 150 meter drop off....then it meant cleaning the seat :-(o)

We slept under the stars with our warmest… Continue

Driving Down Memory Lane

The first vehicle I ever drove was a red 1959 open roof Series III Land Rover. It was my dads prized possession which took him on many hunting, hout maak (gathering wood) and fishing trips, without ever complaining.

It was not just an off-road vehicle, it was like a family member. We did not have…

Freelander 1 vs. Namibia

We decided to go to Namibia for the December 2010 holiday.  Alot of planning and preparation went into this trip.

As part of the planning we did a 4x4 course with Chris from Land Rover Experience.  The aim was to learn more about driving in sand.  Training day was great but took some unexpected…
