While rhino poaching dominates the South African media, the plight of the African Wild Dog doesn’t seem to get the same level of attention. Wild Dogs are South Africa’s most threatened carnivore with less that 450 of these magnificent animals remaining in the wild in South Africa.
With this in mind Land Rover South Africa together with Land Rover Experience Gerotek will be hosting The Land Rover Endangered Wildlife Trust Wild Dog Dash at the Gerotek Facility on Sunday 29 July. The Wild Dog Dash will take the form of an adventure race with a difference on the 6km Rally track at Gerotek, to raise funds as well as raise awareness for the Endangered Wildlife Trust as they seek to protect and preserve the “Painted Dogs” of South Africa.
All funds raised will be donated to the Endangered Wildlife Trust's Wild Dog conservation projects
The Wild Dog Dash will see teams of three taking on the challenging 6km Rally track at Gerotek, each team member will first have to complete one lap on foot, either walking or running then a second lap on a mountain bike while completing a series of tasks along the route.
Land Rover South Africa have been involved with the Endangered Wildlife Trust for the past 12 years, by supporting their Wild Dog conservation projects, making two Land Rover Defenders available to the EWT field teams in order for them to carry out their valuable work no matter how rough the terrain may prove. The vehicles are stationed at the Kruger National Park and the Hluhluwi Mfolozi National Park in KZN.
Registration opens at 07h00, with the actual event starting at 08h00. The cost per team of three is R5000 and all proceeds will be donated to the Endangered Wildlife Trust's Wild Dog conservation projects.
