Land Rover Society of Explorers

.
.

On the 25th of January 2011 we launched one of the most exciting Land Rover projects - ever - that is the Land Rover Society of Explorers.

Within a few days of pre-launching the concept over 300 applications were received to join the Land Rover Society of Explorers. Soon we received enquiries from all around the world "we like this and want to run something similar here" and then in discussion we got to the point where the Land Rover Society of Explorers was launched as the "Round Table" or "Rotary" of Land Rover. The quarterly formal dinner meetings take place and welcome visiting Land Rover owners from around the world.

The initial concept was that of a social society where Land Rover owners get together over a formal dinner and to listen to a presentation by someone who has done something unusual, led an expedition or worked in an uncommon field. The Land Rover Society of Explorers is not a 4x4 club and does not have outings.

So what is the purpose behind the Land Rover Society of Explorers? As a Land Rover owner, imagine that you are going on holiday to another city or another country, you go to the website and note the contact person, you then contact them by email before your visit and you immediately have a "Land Rover family" who can give you advice, possibly show you around, etc.

Another purpose is to use the opportunity to find travel partners (other vehicles to join you on a trip), or find expedition members, or glean information from a member who has visited an unusual destination.

The Land Rover Society of Explorers has members in the UK, Germany, USA, Colombia, New Zealand, France, Australia, Namibia and with interest expressed from Italy, Iceland, Morocco, Jordan, Tunisia, India and many other countries.

Membership is FREE the only requirement is that you must own a Land Rover.

There are two categories, namely Full Membership which is awarded to people who have led expeditions, travelled to an unusual place, etc. (trips to Etosha and Richtersveld do not qualify you as a full member), then there is Associate Membership for people who own a Land Rover and dream the dream but who have not yet participated in an expedition or fulfilled one of the other requirements.

The Land Rover Society of Explorers is run by the founder, together with the Founding Members and the Full Members. http://www.landroversociety.com/members.htm

The Land Rover Society of Explorers does not organise trips but will promote expeditions and research trips by members. No commercial trips or commercial tour operators may advertise to the society.

The quarterly meetings entail a reading of the Aims and Objectives of the Land Rover Society of Explorers, the drinking of a toast to fellow Land Rover owners and finally a toast to fellow adventurers.

The dress code at the Quarterly Meetings is strictly formal (long sleeve shirt, tie and smart trousers in summer with the addition of a jacket in winter) and strictly enforced.

The Aims and Objectives of the Land Rover Society of Explorers:

  • To develop fellowship among Land Rover owners world wide.
  • To form a basis for discussion pertaining to Land Rover adventures around the world.
  • To create a database of expedition members.
  • To continue the Land Rover ethos of treading lightly.
  • To further the establishment of peace and goodwill between all Land Rover owners no matter what religion, culture or ethnic backround.
  • To further these objectives by meetings, lectures, discussions and other activities.
