Land Rover Nelspruit Weekend

Special Guests Kurt Darren and Craig Hinds joined an eager group of clients from Autotec Land Rover and Volvo for an exciting weekend of On- and Off-Road fun at Gerotek.

On Saturday afternoon, 13 November 2010, the group from Autotec Land Rover & Volvo in Nelspruit started arriving at the Hartbeespoort Dam. The aim of this weekend was to spoil their customers and to show them what the latest Land Rover's and Volvo's are capable of. Clients had the opportunity to drive the latest models all the way from Nelpruit to Hartbeespoort.

Some guests checked-in at Villa Paradiso right away, while others went straight to Biltong Blues Restaurant for the big Rugby match. Dinner and great entertainment was enjoyed amongst great friends and within a unique South African atmosphere.

The next morning the group enjoyed a delicious breakfast at Villa Paradiso, overlooking the dam. At around 08:30 the group was escorted from Villa Paradiso to Land Rover Experience Gerotek, where they joined the instructors and other guests. It was a hot day, and was about to become a scorcher!

Paul Kerr, our lead instructor on the day started the morning with a short presentation on the incredible Land Rover Systems and how to negotiate various On-Road situations that might occur.

After the presentation it was time for some practical fun! Everyone got in to the fleet of vehicles and headed off the Straight Track where ABS, breaking distance and emergency lane changes were demonstrated by the instructors, and then it was the turn of our guests, who did exceptionally well!

From here the group departed to the Dynamic Circular Track, used for Aquaplaning, this very intimidating circular track is driven at 90-100km/h, 8mm of water flows over the track and causes the vehicle to float on top of the water as in a real life scenario. The driver looses control, but the Land Rover Dynamic Stability Control takes over, cuts power, and brings the situation under control. Great adrenaline pumping fun, and very informative.

It was time to head off to the Concrete Skid-pad, a very popular track that is used for understeer, oversteer, emergency lane changes in the wet as well as DSC. Today it was used for these purposes, but also for some fun gymkhana action. Our guests had the opportunity to try all the different vehicles on the track, and tried to beat each others times.

A sumptuous lunch was waiting to be enjoyed, and the group was off once more, it was time for some 4x4 activities that included the Gradients, Sand and 4x4 Duck track.
